Foam Recycling
We have recently begun processing packaging foam, and would love to help
you manage your foam-based waste.
How to define the type of foam:
1. EPS- Expanded Polystyrene
Fire Resistant EPS foam can be confirmed by burning. It is
self-extinguishing, and is usually found in construction/building
materials. Unfortunately, we cannot process this type because of the
additional additives present in the foam.
Non-Fire Resistant EPS Foam is the most popular packaging materials for
small appliance, electronics and other general goods. We would be happy to
accept this type.
Other types of foam exist:
2. EPP – Expanded Polypropylene
3. EPE – Expanded Polyethylene
4. PU – Polyurethane
5. Insta-Pack – A special compound that can be molded in any shape
Please call us to figure out what type you have, and what opportunities
exist to recycle them.
Recycling non-fire-retardant EPS Foam:
To ensure a safe, efficient and successful recycling process, the foam
must be clean, non-fire-retardant EPS that is not contaminated with other
materials or waste such as food, corrugated cardboard, wood, paper, metal,
pebbles, dirt, or any other plastic. Unfortunately, wet, dirty foam cannot
be recycled. Painted EPS and EPS glued to corrugated cardboard also cannot
be recycled.
Please ensure that all labels and bar-coding stickers are removed, and
collect loose pieces in clear plastic bags (not including packing peanuts:
please call the Peanut Hotline at 800-828-2214)
Small and light loads of EPS foam may be mailed or shipped to GBIM.
RIGHT OF REFUSAL
GB Industrial Materials Corp. reserves the right to reject any EPS Foam
that does not meet the above specifications. All rejected material will be
returned to the supplier at their expense.
